Every Christmas Tree Has A Story

As I was doing the usual having my son and grandson carry in all the Christmas ornaments, Christmas tree from the garage  I was overwhelmed with all the boxes and what I have collected over the years.

While putting together my tree and fluffing the branches something I have done for over 50 years between my helping my mother to doing my own.  Wow, 50 years that is allot of Christmas trees, since Thanksgiving I have sorted through the boxes and carefully took out each Santa Claus, Angel to make sure nothing is broken. I moved between Halloween and Thanksgiving so things were everywhere.

So this Sunday, I put on my favorite Christmas CD, mixed up my favorite Cinnamon Nut Cake and put it in the oven. To put me in the mood, and oh my did it ever put me in the mood, the smell of cinnamon is soothing. I have found each ornament has a special meaning to me like; my daughters, sons and grandchildren first ornaments to the ones I find every year.  Every mother and grandmother knows how special these are. Over the years my mother lost  all the glass ornaments she cherished, so I  have none so I have searched garage sales, craft fairs and flee markets to see if I can find any of the older glass ornaments. I have found some over the years, but not many. Over the years I started my own collection of glass ornaments some of them are Santa Claus's, Snowmen and Angels. I started a few years ago my tradition of giving my daughters and close friends on Thanksgiving a ornament to put on their own Christmas tree. When my granddaughter was born  I added her  into this tradition.  One year a very good friend gave me a set of Norah Ark ornaments so my grandchildren could have something to put on the tree when we gather to decorate it. They are stars and balls with animals on them, so cute. Homemade ornaments from ex-sister-in-law that are gorgeous. The love and time she spent meant allot to me. I think that is what a Christmas tree really is love, memories of our families.  Maybe it is my age this year decorating filled me with allot of love, tears and thoughts of the people that has touched my life over the years. My only sorrow this year is that  I was trying to open one of my glass boxes and dropped it and all of the ornaments broke.

This is a picture of my tree before I started: Please excuse all the white. I just moved into my home and I am not done unpacking or decorating the house.

Here is some of my Santa's and one of my Winter paintings.
I had to add this one, Pearl my son's dog is on Santa Patrol.
Here is a picture of my tree half way done. Just found out another box of Christmas stuff is at my daughter's. More goodies coming. Maybe the lost cookie jar.
Here are some more Winter scenes along with my Large Santa.

I must close out for today and I hope you enjoy coming along with me decorating my tree. I would love to hear about Christmas tree story.

Just another Christmas Card

I love making Christmas cards and today I had an idea to use snowflakes in a new way. My sister made me allot of snowflakes using the Decorative strip from the SU Holiday Mini and sent them to me. I am a new SU Demo and got my first order just before Thanksgiving and also moved into a new house. So guys I am alittle behind.  I hope you enjoy what I came up with. It is easy, simple and elegant all at the same time. Remember I love Vintage cards.

I am so sorry the picture is blurred, sometimes I shake too much.

Supplies:
Card stock:   Soft Seude, Marnia Mist
Ribbon:       Whisper White Satin
Ink Pads:      Whisper White Craft, Soft Suede and Versa Mark
Misc:            Heat & Stick, Su Rhinestones

I cut my base card out of soft Suede, next layer is Marina Mist, and 3rd layer is Soft Suede again. I stamped snowflakes using SU Northern Hearts stamp set from the Holiday Mini, with Whisper White Craft Ink. Then took the white snowflakes and sponged them with Soft Seude, let dry a minute and then stamp them with Versa Mark, sprinkled them with heat stick, used my heat gun to make them sticky and then sprinkled the snowflakes in Dazzling Diamonds. Added a Whisper White Satin Ribbon and attached the snowflakes after drying.

Technique Junkie 1 on 1 for November

I recieved Sat a beautiful Christmas card from my partner this month Sandra Dillon, she did a Fancy Fold from TJ CD. I just love her card and the Penquins.  I know you will too.

Happy Thanksgiving

Hi, everyone I have been in my kitchen all morning getting ready, Turkey in the oven, here is a funny for you guys.  I goofed, when I reached in to get the tradional pumpkin pie from the store freezer I thought that is what I got, well it turns out it was  Sweet Potato pie instead. I have never tasted Sweet Potato pie before so I baked it anyway,  I like trying new foods,  I will let you know how it came out. Guess the old saying read before you goes to pies as well.

I hope everyone's Thanksgiving is a good one full of laughter and of course lots of food.
Happy Thanksgiving.

Welcome to SU Stars Blog Hop 3

It's that time again for SU Stars monthly Blog Hop that is happening this weekend.  The start time is Saturday morning at 7am PT/8am MT/9am CT/10am ET and the posts will be up thru Sunday.

If you started at the beginning then you arrived here from the very talented, Maria at her blog: http://www.scraplovecreate.blogspot.com/.
This month's theme is Christmas or Winter cards or projects.  I chose Christmas which is my favorite time of the year. I  CASEd a Note card I saw on Inking Idaho by Becky and added my own touches.  I hope you enjoy what I have created for you.

Supplies:

Card stock:                Always Artichoke, Cherry Cobbler, Very Vanilla
Stamp Set:                SU Tree Trimming, Sincere Salutations
Stamp Pads:             Always Artichoke, Cherry Cobbler
Ribbons:                   Early  Espresso
Embossing Folder:   Petals a Plenty
Other accessories:    Chunky Glitter, Crystal Effects, Eyelet Border Punch

I used Always Artichoke for the base card, 2nd layer is Very Vanilla, cut a piece of Cherry Cobbler  ran it thru my Big Shot using Petals a Plenty embossing folder then cut a 1" x 41/4" strip to go accross the top, also cut a piece of Very Vanilla and put it thru SU Eyelet Border punch. Then I took a sponge and dabbed Always Artichoke over it until it darken.  I glued it to the embossed piece and added some ribbon. Stamped ornaments, and added ribbon instead of stamping string, added alittle glitter, crstal effects. Then stamped sentiment. I think it came out really cool how about you?

Now you need to hop over to, Diane's blog at: http://www.stampinldyglfr62.blogspot.com/ and see what she has made for you. I know what she has created for you is awesome. Don't forget to leave me a comment on what you think, I love reading each one.

If you get lost during the Blog Hop, you can always come back and start at the beginning http://www.su-stars.blogspot.com/.

Stampin For Fun Diva's Sketch Challenge No. 1

For our first ever Sketch Challenge, we are going to do something a little different. Operation Write Home (OWH) has put out a call for Valentine Day's cards -- to be received by them no later than December 1st. They need to get them in the mail to the troops for them to get in the mail to their loved ones to be received by February 14th! To support this cause, we are challenging our visitors to create a Valentine Day's card -- use your imagination and creativity!

The Design Team Members of Stampin' For Fun Divas support our troops and what they do. Many of our troops are stationed overseas in combat areas and have very little access to everyday things like greeting cards. This is where Operation Write Home comes in -- they are a non-profit organization that solicit handmade greeting cards and then send them to our troops to send home to their loved ones.

Here is what I submitted, I decided not to do the traditional red, pink this time and used Crumb Cake, Always Artichoke, Cherry Cobbler and retired Brilliant Blue. Love that 2 Step Bird Punch,  and Label Punch.

Hope you enjoy my card. Please come visit us and join in on the fun at :

Welcome to the Royal Blog Tour

Welcome to the Royal Blog Tour
and
Queen Lee Conrey's Kingdom

As you complete your travels throughout each Kingdom, you will visit over 70 castles
showcasing over 150 projects for your viewing pleasure!
WELCOME to my Castle.  Please take a moment from your travels to rest and relax as you peruse my projects before you continue on with your journey. You will be inspired, challenged and surprised at what we, the Royals, have cooked up for you.

If you started your travels here that is great,  but you might want to start your travels at the beginning by visiting Queen Lee Conrey's Castle here. http://royalblogtour.com/.  If you came from Princess Tammy Baldwin's castle, then you are in the right place. Princess Tammy Baldwin out did herself this time.  Weren't her card and projects fantastic!

My first project is a Gift Box Set with 4 cards made with the Elements of Style stamp set. I love the roses in this set and use them quite often. I chose to make a Tole look, using lace, ribbons and flowers because I love making Vintage looking cards and boxes.

Supplies:
Card stock: Very Vanilla, Real Red;  Stamp Ink Pad: Real Red, Punchs: Scallop Trim, Large Scallop Circle,  Ribbons: Real Red Satin and some gorgeous lace. I hope you enjoy my projects and leave me comments on them.

For my second project I chose something that I saw on Monica Weber's Blog and CASE'd it.  (I also found directions on Splitcoasters.)  I loved her Diaper Fold Pouch so much I had to make one and found it to be one of the easiest projects I have ever done; and, of course I filled it up with my favorite chocolate -- Hershey Kisses.
My final project is an Easel card. I have seen them often and this summer received a few and decided it would be a great project for here. I love birds and flowers so the stamp set Elements of Style was just perfect. I used SU Markers to color the Roses and Humming Bird. Then sponged over the background with Old Olive and highlighted with Daffodil Delight. The photos do not do the card justice.

The first picture shows the front of the card.

And the second picture shows it opened and standing.

I hope you have enjoyed my cards and projects. I will post tutorials after theTour on my "castle" for anyone who is interested and now onto the fun part --  how to win my Blog Candy!

Yep, my first Blog Candy. All you have to do to win is leave a comment with your email address and what you like most about my blog.  I will draw a name and send an email to the winner. Now here is what is in my Blog Candy.  Since I am an artist, I will be giving away an 8x10 oil painting of the ocean.  I hope this will tempt you to leave a comment.

I've enjoyed having you visit my castle and send you on your travels to visit Princess Kathy White's castle by clicking on the next slipper below.

Stampin For Fun Divas Color Challenge

My upline and I are going to start  challenges and here is my first attempt at submitting one.  Everything is still under construction, but here is my first card.
Supplies: Cherry Cobbler, Crumb Cake, and Early Espresso, Very Vanilla card stock, Very Vanilla Satin Ribbon.  Large Scallop punch, Crimper,  Beautiful Wings Embosslit,  Background texture's plates, Brads,  and of course Mr. Big Shot., and who can live without him.

I have been trying to think of where I got the idea for the flower and for the life of me it has slipped my mind. So if these instructions sound familiar for me or let me know they are yours.
 So here goes:
I cut 3 scallop flower of each color using SU scallop punch, then run each one through the SU Crimper to help loosen the paper about 10 times. Then take each piece and crumble up in the palm of you hand, by folding and refolding and then I separate the paper into two layers one side will be smooth and the other looks like faux suede.  Do this with each one, the put all layers together and punch a hole in the center and add brad. Then I spray smooch on them to soften so I can shape, then I let dry. After dry I glue to a base piece either another scallop or circle for stability. Then I can place flower on my card anywhere. Whew! that is a mouth full.
Well you can check us out and see what we are about at http://stampinforfundivas.blogspot.com/

Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge

This is this week color challenge over at http://www.palspaperarts.com/. I thought I would give it a try and here is my card.
I chose to use a retired stamp set from SU Houte Couture it seemed fitting with this weeks challenge. I also used polka dots, and lattice embossing folder. I also used the new SU scallop punch to make the flower, added pearls to rim of the hat. I colored the hat with Temping Turquoise marker from SU. The colors were challenging this week and I hope you like what I came up with. Forgive the picture my camera and I had issues.

National Banana Split Day-August 25th, 2010

Check out this YouTube video by Youngsdairy on How to Make a
Banana Split:

History

David Evans Strickler, a 23-year-old apprentice pharmacist at Tassel Pharmacy in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, who enjoyed inventing sundaes at the store's soda fountain, invented the banana-based triple ice cream sundae in 1904. The sundae originally cost 10 cents, twice the price of other sundaes, and caught on with students of nearby Saint Vincent College. News of the sundae spread by word-of-mouth by students, through correspondence, and at professional conventions. Strickler went on to buy the pharmacy, naming it Strickler's Pharmacy. The city of Latrobe celebrated the 100th anniversary of the invention of the banana split in 2004, and in the same year the National Ice Cream Retailers Association (NICRA) certified the city as its birthplace.

WELCOME TO VC ROCKS BLOG HOP IV

You have heard the old saying save the best for last, well I think this will apply for the last Blog Hop for VC Rocks 2010.  I have enjoyed this summer all the cards and projects that all the Rockers have made. Today is the last blog hop of the season and I think everyone will surprise  and delight you at the same time. If you arrived here from the very talented Holly http://inkpaperstamps.com/ I know you just loved what she made for you.  If not then you can start over at http://vcrocks.blogspot.com/ .

Here is my project:

I decided to share a card I made at my monthly SU meeting. We were challenge to make a card using a kit made up of dsp, card stock, brad, ribbon and was told to design something. This is my design it took me a minute or two figure out what I wanted to do, then wham! it hit me. I just started stamping the same design in the dsp in a row from the Friends Never Fade stamp set with each of the main colors , then I punched a strip of eyelet, punched out 3-scallops out of dsp and made a fan fold flower out of it, added an Antique Brad in the middle, stamped my sentiment and WA-la I am done. I just loved the way it came out and I hope you do too.

Supplies:
Card stock:       Black, Certainly Celery, Very Vanilla
Ink Pads:          Marina Mist, Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie
Punches:            Eyelet, Scallop
Stamp Set:       Friends Never Fade
Dsp:                Green House Gala
Brads:             Antique

Now it is time to continue to hop over to Kelly Mayou http://weekendstamper.blogspot.com/, where she has made something wonderful for you. Don't forget to leave me a comment I enjoy reading each one.
