Gingerbread Men

It is that time of the year again, Christmas Cookies. Although over the last several years I don't bake and cook like I use to, I still like to some cookies. Today I made Ginger Bread cookies with the help of my son. I mixed and made the dough and we cut them out and decorated. So how is that for team work. We had fun and that is all that matters. Here is a picture and my recipe. Enjoy and I hope you make some cookie memories of your own.

Ingredients

3 cups  flour
2 tsp.  ground Ginger
1 tsp.   ground Cinnamon
1 tsp.   baking soda
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 cup (11/2 sticks) butter, softened
3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1 egg
1tsp. pure vanilla extract

Mix  first 6 ingredients; set aside. Beat  butter and sugar in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add molasses, egg and vanilla mix well.

Gradually beat in flour mixture  on low speed until well mixed.  Divide dough into2 flat discs and wrap in plastic wrap. Refrigerate 4 hours or overnight.

Roll  out dough to 1/4 inch thickness on lightly floured work surface.  Cut into gingerbread men shapes with a 5 in cookie cutter.  Place 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheets.

Bake  in preheated 350 degree oven for 8-10 minutes or until edges of cookies just begin to brown. Cool on baking sheets 2 minutes. Remove to wire racks and cool completely. Decorate cookies as desired. With either white icing or sprinkles.

Store cookies in tight container up to 5 days.

Makes 2 dozen.

I hope you enjoy making these as much as we did.

Christmas Swap Cookies

I am so excited that my partner in the cookie swap was Lisa Eisner. I sent her my Kris Kringle recipe and she sent me her Linzer cookie recipe. I had a lot of fun making these and learned a new cookie recipe for Christmas. My son just loved them.

Here is a picture of Lisa's Kris Kringle and my picture of Linzer cookies. Don't they just look yummy! If you would like any of these recipes just let me know.
Until next year.

    Notebooks of Fun

I decided to clean up my desk and purse with all the pieces of paper for directions to places I go a lot or just once in awhile. Since I moved last year to Nevada it seems I need directions for everything. So I took one of the notebooks I bought from the dollar store and covered it with old DSP and some Faux Suede paper to make a Travel Book. This way I won't loose all those directions and comments.!

I hope you like what I came up with, if you look real close there is a Rhinestone for Las Vegas!

    Open Sea Birthday Card

Here is a card I made for one of my grandson's. I like the Open Sea stamp set and I hope he likes what I came up with.

    Supplies:
Card Stock                             Crumb Cake, Pacific Point, Soft Suede, Very Vanilla
Stamp Sets                             The Open Sea and Itty Bitty Banners
    Ink                                          Soft Suede
    Stampin Up Markers              Pacific Point
    Punch                                      21/2 inch Circle Punch
    Framelit                                   Itty Bitty Banner
    Accessories                             Stampin Up Circle Cutter

I cut a piece of Pacific Point 51/2 x 41/4 for the base card, then 51/4 x 4 for the next layer I used Soft Suede. Then cut a piece of Very Vanilla 5 x 33/4   and stamped world stamp, compass and anchor all over it.
Then I stamped a piece of Pacific Point 31/2 x 21/2 and tore the edges
Next I stamped shipping log onto a piece of Very Vanilla 31/4 x 21/4  in Soft Suede and tore the edges.
I stamped Happy Birthday with Soft Suede and cut it out using framelit and put aside, same with the anchor except I trimmed around it.
Next I stamped the ship on Very Vanilla card stock with Soft Suede and using my Pacific Point marker colored under the ship to make the sea. Then I punched it out using the 2 1/2 inch Circle punch.
Last using the Circle Cutter I cut a piece of Crumb Cake and Soft Suede to make the Port Holes. I was going to put brads on the Port Holes to make it look more realistic, but ran out of time before my sis had to leave for convention, where it was being mailed from. Sorry Mark!

I hope you enjoyed my project today and leave me a comment below. Thanks for stopping by.

    Thinking of You

Today I made two  Thinking of You cards one in Early Espresso and the other in Midnight Muse. Around here everyone liked the Midnight Muse one better. I was visiting Kay Katlhoff blog here and saw these cards and fell in love with them, and guess what I cased them.! Kay also has a step by step video if you would like to make some of your own. Thanks Kay for inspiring me to go outside my box.

Here is my card using Early Espresso

Here is the Front and inside of my card using Midnight Muse

Supplies I used for these cards:

Stamp Sets                        Thinking of You (Spring Mini), Word Play
Card Stock                        Very Vanilla, Daffodil Delight
Designer Series Paper       Tea for Two
Stampin Ink                        Midnight Muse, Early Espresso
    Framelits                           Window Frames  Collection
Brads                                 Glimmer Brads (I used Pumpkin)

    Directions
    1. I place one of the larger framelits on top of the Very Vanilla piece (51/4" x 4") and ran through my Big Shot to give the cut out,.
    2. Then I stamped the image on top and then I used the framelit that fit what I stamped and ran that through the Big Shot this way they fit into each other.
    3. You can see Kay's step by step video here, she explains it better than I do.
    4. I then cut the chevrons from the Tea for Two designers series paper and placed over the framelit.
    5. Next I placed the Brad at the top of my stamped image, then adhered that on top of the chevrons.  Very quick and easy card to do that makes a statement.
Have a great day and thanks for stopping by Designs by Jackie.  Let me know which one you like? Early Espresso or Midnight Muse?

    Butterflies in Flight

Today card is going to be one for my  daughter Shelly her birthday is right after Valentines and I wanted to make her card soft and girly. When I saw the new Butterfly punch in the Spring Mini, ideas start to form in my head.

Let's get started! Here is my card:

Here is the inside of the card:

    Supplies

Card Stock                       Wisteria Wonder, Whisper White
    Stampin Ink                      Wisteria Wonder
    Stamp Set                         Beautiful Birthday
Ribbon                              5/8" White Organza and Satin
Punch                                Bitty Punch (new from Spring Catalog)
    Embossing Folder            Perfect Polka Dots
Tools                                Simply Scored, Big Shot Machine
Accessories                      Basic Pearls, Basic Rhinestones and Paper Lace Dollie

    Directions

Cut a piece of Wisteria Wonder card stock 51/2" x 41/4" and score down the middle to make your base card.
Next I cut a piece of Whisper White card stock 51/4" x 4" and then ran it through the Big Shot machine using Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder.
Next I cut another piece of Wisteria Wonder 5" x 33/4" and then I scored it using Stampin Ups Simply Scored.
Next I adhered the pieces together
Then I cut another piece of Whisper White card stock and ran it through the Big Shot using the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder.
Next I punched out several (5-6) butterflies using the new Bitty Butterfly punch found in the new Spring Mini. Attaching them to the top piece in a scatter format.
I cut a piece of White Organza Ribbon to make a bow and attached it to the pieces and then adhered them to the base card.
I added Pearls for some additional Bling!

Happy Birthday and I hope you love the card!

Thanks for stopping by and as usual comments are welcome. I just love reading them!
